The B&E Podcast #050 "The Great Lie of Suffering For Your Art" Soundcloud Link: soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST: On our grand 50th podcast extravaganza, we accidentally cover a lot of topics that reflect on our conversations of past all the way to now. We go through a lot of territory from practical advice for your creative process to keeping your values in mind, to the place we give suffering and pain in our work. POINT #1: "THERE'S NO CERTAINTY IN THE DATA" -You can follow all the rules and hit every note, check every box and yet not create a piece of art or creative work that connects with anyone. Likewise, you can blaze an unknown trail that no one will be able to follow. There's a harmonious balance where it all comes together. POINT #2: "WHERE WE PUT OUR VALUE" -Whether we define ourselves by what we have or what we don't have, it makes our enjoyment of our work dependent on external circumstances. You are more valuable than any sum of money large or small. Our joy comes from our own permission of freedom to do what we love. POINT #3: "SUFFERING FOR YOUR ART IS UNNECESSARY" -As artists, we often romanticize the tortured icons of our crafts. We even think that to be "good" at what we do REQUIRES it. This is complete nonsense. The value and power of our art comes down to our authenticity, our joy and what we contribute to the world.
