WOTA #020 - ”The Law of Seasons”
Sunday Jul 14, 2019
Sunday Jul 14, 2019
- There are natural changes as we go through life. There are ebbs and flows, ups and downs, times for expansion and times for introspection. Being a creative person means getting in touch with the seasons and cycles of your process. Not forcing things to be anything other than what they are. It takes being present and having appreciation for the moment you are in. In this artist law we call upon many other artist laws to utilize it. Your life is going to take you on a journey, if you choose to see it that way, and in one way or another it will be the lower moments that help you value the higher ones. The last thing you want is to flatline in your life and feel numbness. This law shows you to appreciate the experiences and emotions of your creative existence.

When we focus on keeping it simple, the beautiful complexities have a way of figuring themselves out with ease.
KEY INSIGHTS OF THIS EPISODE:
#1) - don't talk yourself out of things by making them complicated

— Before setting out on any worthwhile path, it all begins with a vision, a calling to something deep within us. Something inspiring that lights us up. Without a vision we’ll eventually find ourselves aimless, easily influenced and distracted by others and unsure of ourselves. By allowing our internal eye of the mind and heart to see our imagination come to life we are able to sustain clear direction over time.

Wednesday Mar 20, 2019
Wednesday Mar 20, 2019
SUMMARY OF THIS EPISODE:
- We get into being unapologetic about the way you want to go in your life. In a world that can pressure us to conform it takes confidence and courage to lay claim to what you truly want, especially when it does not make sense or fit with other people's concepts about what is appropriate and okay. When you have decided on your direction and are on your way it takes passion to commit to your path and truly own it.
KEY INSIGHTS OF THIS EPISODE:
#1) your experience is up to you to lay claim to and you get to decide how you will commit to your way of doing it
#2) to claim your way requires a kind of commitment, confidence and courage that comes from deep within you
#3) when you allow yourself to shine in your life it may upset others or disrupt their comfort zones, but hold strong

Tuesday Mar 19, 2019
Tuesday Mar 19, 2019
SUMMARY OF THIS EPISODE:
- On this episode we get deeper into finding your own way as an artist and venture into what it means to be on a path that is yours and yours alone. So "how" do you embrace your path? Once you know what you want and where you want to go it comes down to how you want to go about it. You get to do it in your very own way. It does not have to be done the way others have done it before and this is what frees you to create the magic in it all.
KEY INSIGHTS OF THIS EPISODE:
#1) your path is something you feel pulled to, it's like a gravity that you feel and allow yourself to be directed towards
#2) nobody's path is just like yours, there may be similarities, but to be authentic and true to yourself go your own way
#3) your way is not always so much about the destination, it can often best be experienced while your in the middle of it

Monday Mar 18, 2019
Monday Mar 18, 2019
SUMMARY OF THIS EPISODE:
- Having a vision for your life and knowing where you want to go with it can be a challenge to figure out. On this episode we look into answering the question... "what is my purpose?"... and offer some interesting solutions to get deeply connected to it. We discovered that purpose is more of a sense you have. It's a feeling, a calling. Instead of looking to the mind to logic it out this episode looks to the body to feel it out.
KEY INSIGHTS OF THIS EPISODE:
#1) you may not know "what" your purpose is, so we consider some ideas around finding your "sense" of purpose
#2) finding purpose is not an intellectual pursuit, it comes from a feeling deep within you that may be difficult to articulate
#3) having purpose is not always about seeing the whole picture of it all right away, it's discovered and built along the way

“The End of An Era"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Folks this is the end of "The B&E Podcast" as you know it. Don't worry though, we will be back and better than ever very soon. On this finale, we reflect on some of the biggest personal lessons we learned doing the podcast. We'll see you all again soon under our new name, "WAY OF THE ARTIST".
POINT #1: "NEW BEGINNINGS"
- Art is all about beginnings. Sometimes a new start means throwing some old things away. Embracing that process means stepping into unknown territory, but bringing in the wisdom you learned from your past experience and trusting where you'll land.
POINT #2: “FINDING PERSPECTIVE"
- In this journey of being creatives and artists, there's going to be a fair share of highs, lows, and unexpected turns. Learning to accept this as part of the ride helps us to move through the tough times with less pain and even find profound lessons that will propel you even further than before.
POINT #3: “KEEPING INTEGRITY"
- There are a fair share of temptations along the path of artistry that ask us to do something we're not truthfully comfortable with; to compromise ourselves or our work in some way. Knowing that we always retain the power to choose, and to say no has never been more important in our world.

The B&E Podcast #164
“The Permission to Unleash Your Creativity"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Welcome back everyone for yet another provocative installment. In this one, we reflect on some of our own early experiences of things that didn't quite go to plan to discover that maybe it was exactly what we needed to learn some big lessons. We often look outside for the answer to creating great art, but in the end, it all comes back to us. You're it!
POINT #1: "WHAT WE NEED TO LEARN"
- More often than not, things don't quite go to how we planned or intended. Often those detours or time we see as wasted were exactly what was needed to learn a very profound lesson. No sense in regretting it, maybe try appreciating it.
POINT #2: “UNDERSTANDING TECHNIQUE"
- In any art form, there's this thing we have to face called technique. What does it do? What is its function? Why do we learn it? Usually, it's something to get out of the way so you can get to doing the thing that is most important.
POINT #3: “ONLY YOU KNOW"
- At the end of all the learning and preparing and technique it still all comes down to you. Artistry is not something that can necessarily be taught in any conventional sense. Artistry is about you trusting who you are, your voice and its inherent value, even if you don't fully understand it.

Tuesday Nov 07, 2017
The B&E Podcast #163
“Why Resisting Change Can Be Our Downfall"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
This saucy little conversation is all about how we make a genuine discovery in our lives and in our creativity. By staying open to change, and being adaptable, we can overcome any seeming obstacle by understanding how it is exactly what we need.
POINT #1: "YOU CAN'T PLAN DISCOVERY"
- It's simply not possible. You can set out on a course, you can have an intention, you can explore an area, but you can't contrive discovery. True discovery only occurs when you delve into the unknown without a sense of what you might find.
POINT #2: “CHANGING FOCUS"
- Change is one of those facts of life. It's one of the certainties. Isn't it strange then how we resist it so desperately? When we learn to embrace change we can actually discover a new way or path that is more authentic and true to our sense of purpose.
POINT #3: “GUIDEPOSTS"
- Are the hurdles and obstacles actually helpful guiding tracks? It may be so. When we can stop lamenting things not working out how we wanted right away, we may uncover a greater truth to our vision. We don't have to give up what we want, just the way we thought it was going to go.

Saturday Nov 04, 2017
The B&E Podcast #162
“The Illusion of Safety In Creativity"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
This one was so damn good. Just click on it now. We break down all kinds of the biggest problems we face when it comes to creating and when it comes to being an artist. Hint, it has almost nothing to do with technical ability and more to do with our mindset towards it.
POINT #1: "THE TAIL WAGGING THE DOG"
- We have often become trained to come at our work from a technique first approach. This is riddled with all kinds of problems that severely limit if not completely stifle your potential.
POINT #2: “TECHNIQUE"
- Your art is never about the technique. The more we begin to understand this and accept this truth the better our work will become and the freer we will feel as creators. What you do is not about the technique and it never will be.
POINT #3: “FALLING"
- The biggest reason we cling onto technique, both in ourselves and in society, is because it gives us a sense of safety. This sense, however, is an illusion. When we rely solely on our technical skills to see us through to artistry we lose its most critical component. Much like love, we have to fall and begin to trust that the fall is precisely what is necessary.

B&EP #161 - Connecting Your Art with the Audience
Tuesday Oct 31, 2017
Tuesday Oct 31, 2017
The B&E Podcast #161
“Connecting Your Art With the Audience"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
On this "Not So Serious" podcast, we use the art of cinematography as a jump off point which becomes a terrific catalyst for us to explore the bigger themes of creating. We explore the play of control and chaos, the payoffs of maintaining your integrity, and why you are your greatest asset.
POINT #1: "CINEMATOGRAPHY & STORY"
- This beautiful art plays such a huge role in how effectively the story is being told. Great cinematography not only gives you the best view but works to make you feel something and build an emotional connection to the story. By making creative decisions to serve the whole as opposed to simply trying to "look cool", your work goes to another level.
POINT #2: “WHAT'S YOUR FUEL?"
- Where are you working from? Are you honouring your own ideas? Are you honouring the things that really compel you when you're creating? Do you have your own emotional connection to the subject matter you're dealing with? By tapping into our own humanity and its muckiness, we open the opportunity for the audience to connect more deeply.
POINT #3: “GEMS FROM NOWHERE"
- When you're in sync with your own experience, when you're trusting yourself and letting your connection to your material come out, all kinds of beautiful things you didn't expect or couldn't have even thought of make their way out. All kinds of colours and nuance begin weaving into what you're creating and you might not even realize it until much later.

The B&E Podcast #160
“The Creative Benefits of Appreciating Other's Work"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
We've talked at length before about criticism and its pitfalls, but what about the opposite? What happens when we show appreciation for other people's works? Learning to find and give value to the artists we come in contact with can do extraordinary things, even if we're not really a fan.
POINT #1: "BLACK & WHITE"
- No work is ever just shit nor is it perfect. Usually, we tend to be more critical than praising. Until we can learn to find appreciation in others and their work, whether we subjectively like it or not, we can never offer genuine criticism either.
POINT #2: “YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE"
- If you find or realize that you are more critical of others than appreciative, chances are it's a reflection on you as well. When we build a critical creative world around us we become fearful to create ourselves. Learning to genuinely appreciate others helps us build a trusting environment for ourselves and others.
POINT #3: “OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN"
- When a work rubs us the wrong way or upsets us, often it provides a window into ourselves. By asking some questions as to why this is so we may discover some hidden beliefs and unexamined ideologies we have been needlessly carrying.

The B&E Podcast #159
“Rooting Out Guilt In the Creative Process"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Oh yeah, baby! This is a good one full of practical and philosophical wanderings. We uncover some insidious effects of guilt on our creativity as well as find some simple and profound steps to push through resistance.
POINT #1: "WHAT'S GOING ON?"
- Sometimes when you don't know what to do, or where to begin, or don't even feel like doing anything. That's fine. Whoever said you had to feel great? Start with where you are. Say, "fuck it" and see what comes out. Let it go and let it move through you.
POINT #2: “OH THAT GUILT"
- We play a lot of mind games with ourselves when it comes to "being busy" or what we "should be doing". We use guilt as a way of making us feel better about what where we think we fall short or aren't doing enough. Stop it. It's a silly game.
POINT #3: “FIND YOUR WINS"
- It doesn't matter how big or small, how profound or mundane, find wins for yourself every single day. Find three wins every single day that will make you feel as though you won the day. Try it.

“What Stops People From Being Original"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Being original is one of those things that an artist strives for but is one of those things that is hard to pin down. How do you be original? How do you create something original? How do you know? We explore and try to shed some light on this tricky subject.
POINT #1: "WHAT YOU SAW"
- We often fall into the trap of taking all of our inspiration from works we've seen or heard from other artists. It's great to be inspired by others we admire but not so great to simply try and create what they did. When we copy we rob ourselves of our potential to be original.
POINT #2: “YOUR LIFE"
- Learning to follow our own impulses, feelings, and ideas as they come up in our work is the thing that sends us in the direction of originality. Your art does not fuel art, your life fuels your art. The mundane, the little details and seeming trivialities of your life are your gold.
POINT #3: “TRUST IS THE KEY"
- Unlocking your art requires trust in your life experience. Trusting that it has value, that there are things about you and how you express that are inherently original and unique.

“What It Means to Take a Creative Risk"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Time after time, these not so serious podcasts really get into the goods. This one is about that thing people say all the time -- take a risk. We try to demystify what that all means and how it can make you freer, and more authentic as an artist. Let's take some risks people!
POINT #1: "WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?"
- At multiple points in our lives, we've heard that sentiment to take risks. So how do you do that? How do you take a risk? What IS taking a risk? Perhaps the better way to look at it is to give yourself permission. Permission to do what? Permission to bring you into your work.
POINT #2: “YOU"
- How much are you actually letting you into your work? How much are you giving your voice, your vision, your experience value? When you listen to that part of you, you begin to make creative choices and take creative directions that are, guess what, RISKY.
POINT #3: “CAN YOU GET 'INTUIT?'"
- As artists, we have to work from a place that is sometimes a little mysterious, a little illogical, but no less effective. Working from a place of feeling unlocks creative treasures and is the foundation upon which everything else is built.

“How to Make Money With Your Artistic Abilities"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
It's everyone's favourite topic -- money. Or maybe not. No matter what you think and feel about it, it's a part of our world and it definitely affects us as artists. Making money has long been a tough situation for the majority of creatives out there and in this episode, we discuss how to make the transition as well as explore exciting new possibilities for artists.
POINT #1: "VISION, INTENTION & POSITION"
-A big part of how we make an earning from our art is the place that we hold in people's minds. We need to get clear on our truthful vision and intention -- where we want to go. From there we can put ourselves out there in a more impactful way that people remember.
POINT #2: “GET GOOD, PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE"
- The first thing is to come to a certain place with your work. And that means working at your work, your craft and your art form. At some point, you have to begin letting others see or hear it. Begin with people you trust and then branch further out. Keep creating and keep showing it to people and you'll get noticed.
POINT #3: “GOLDEN AGE"
- We are at an unprecedented time where we can find an audience with little to no interference or middle man. There are new businesses and economies just arising to enable artists more creative freedom as well as financial support. Use emerging technologies to find your audience and build a career.

The B&E Podcast #155
“Why Change Is Hard & How to Do It"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Let's get not so serious with it and see what happens! We tackle issues around making changes, making decisions and making love. Well maybe not exactly that last part, but love has a big part in all of it. We discover that when it comes down to being great artists and having great lives, love is the way to decide.
POINT #1: "CH-CH-CH CHANGES!"
- Changes are a part of life. They happen out in the world and they happen on a personal level. When things get uncomfortable and painful, we can spare ourselves suffering by listening to what it's telling us. Usually, it's to make a change.
POINT #2: “LETTING GO"
- Letting go is maybe one of the strongest things we will ever learn to do. Part of what makes us indecisive and resistant to change is because we're hanging onto something, often something that doesn't serve us. When we let go of our ideas and judgments around what letting something go might mean we can embrace a more truthful voice and a path that is calling to us.
POINT #3: “IS IT LOVE?"
- We're either making our decisions out of love or out of fear. Quite simply, what are you basing your decisions on?

“How to Develop Your Talents As An Artist"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Developing our skills and craft as artists are fundamental to our success and our own sense of gratification. In this one, we talk about the effectiveness of practice, going back to the basics and learning to enjoy the process of it all.
POINT #1: "PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE"
- Like anything, if you want to get good at it, you have to practice. There are loads of creative ways you can come up with as well as research to improve "soft" and "hard" skills. The only thing you need after that is the follow through.
POINT #2: “MAKING IT MATTER"
- If it's so easy as just practicing, then why don't we just do it? Often it's because we're too focused on how far we have to go, or simply where we are not. What we need is a flip in perception. How can we find the reward in what we're doing right now? How can we enjoy the mundane practices? By letting go of expectations we can discover the joy of mastery.
POINT #3: “IT ALL COMES TOGETHER"
- When time and effort meet, amazing things happen. By trusting what you're doing in practice, you will find extraordinary expression when you put your work out there. There's a little science and a little something mysterious all going on.

Wednesday Oct 04, 2017
Wednesday Oct 04, 2017
The B&E Podcast #153
“Let the Criticism Come"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
We kick off a big talk on criticism once again, how we handle it as artists, where it comes from, how to know where it's coming from and so on. What we uncover is that there is no need to fear criticism in any form it comes from to find liberation.
POINT #1: "UNDERSTAND BEFORE YOU CRITICIZE"
- If you're active as a critic of an artistic medium it's important that you know what it entails, not just technically but personally and deeply. Whether that means you have to do it yourself and put your own work out there, intimately knowing what you criticize will make you more valuable to the process. Ask yourself, how would I like to receive criticism?
POINT #2: “TEAR IT ALL DOWN"
- Some people don't really provide constructive feedback. It's not particularly hard to tell when that happens -- usually full of jarring trash talk and cruel personal opinion without explanation of possible improvement. When you encounter this kind of talk, sweep it off.
POINT #3: “GREAT CRITICISM"
- It can be an art unto itself. It can help an artist see where they acted or expressed inauthentically or where the message got lost in the technique. It can be a spirit of cooperation to push communication further and bolder and even be a source of inspiration.

Sunday Oct 01, 2017
The B&E Podcast #152
“Give Yourself a Chance to be Incredible"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
We love these not so serious talks. We always get into something. On this one, we put a lot of focus on filmmaking to discover some universal truths about artistry. As artists, we have many tools at our disposal, many methods, and many means, but this is not what makes us artists. By learning to wield these means in direction and service to a vision we can go beyond.
POINT #1: "NEW TECHNIQUES"
- Inspiration can often be found in new methods and techniques, but that doesn't make them stand on their own. They must still be crafted, shaped, used where they fit. Sometimes it means foregoing it all together -- the choice is yours.
POINT #2: “WHAT'S IT ALL FOR?"
- Behind a lot of the practical logics in craft and industry, there was some artistic reason. When that reason gets lost and only the practicality remains you're left with an empty shell and the artistry is lost.
POINT #3: “DARE & FALL"
- To be an artist means to be bold and daring and to fall and risk. Only then are you truly able to know what is inside of you. Playing it safe is not the ground of artistry -- find your opportunities and put your voice out there.

Wednesday Sep 27, 2017
The B&E Podcast #151
“Finding the Life, Work, Art Balance"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Finding the balance seems like a constant conversation around here. On this one, we take a direct look on finding that equilibrium in some of the biggest areas that affect us. We discover that we always have choices to find greater balance and more joy in our lives when we let go of our judgments. This one is super tasty.
POINT #1: "SWING AWAY"
- When anything is too far out, as in too much work or too much play, or even too much art, there's bound to be problems. Life will become too dull, too stressful, too uninspired etc. When one thing is taking too much of your energy, swing in the other direction to find balance.
POINT #2: “STEP AWAY"
- Sometimes we need to step away from what we're doing, even if it's the art that we love. It isn't the same as taking a step back, this is an exercise in gaining perspective on our situation so we can make a powerful decision to follow more joy in our lives.
POINT #3: “WHO'S JUDGING?"
- Part of what gets in the way of us following our passion and what's exciting for us now is our attachment to the past and what we think it might mean if we walked away from something we've invested a lot of time into. When we realize that it doesn't mean anything and that we can come back or change the path at any time we open up to complete artistic freedom.

“Find a Struggle that Brings You Joy"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
We bring you a podcast that's all about the messy part of the journey of being an artist and how that's actually a good thing. Without the challenges, it would get awfully boring around here. This one is full of practical and philosophical wanderings. Brandon also goes down a crazy corner rabbit hole about time -- which is fun. Check it out. (This recording has a periodic sound issue in the recording which we're not sure why it happened, but the episode is awesome. Promise.)
POINT #1: "WE'RE IN THE INCUBATOR"
- Life is constant learning. When we step out of one incubator we enter another one. There's never a stop to it. This isn't depressing. This makes life full of aliveness. When we stop resisting this process we can transform it into something profound.
POINT #2: “IT'S A MAGIC TRICK"
- There's never any time but now. There's no tomorrow or yesterday, they exist only as thoughts in our mind. So if there's something you want to do, now is always the best time to start doing it. Make the decision.
POINT #3: “WE GOT STRUGGLES"
- Find a struggle that brings you joy, and find joy in the struggles. When we can learn to turn our challenges into play, we no longer have to suffer so much for our art and our careers.

“What It Takes to Have Longevity in the Arts"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
How do you have a long career and survive the trials and tribulations of an artistic life? This is what we explore in this saucy little episode. We come away with some great ideas around how we motivate ourselves and what it is that we're really doing as artists.
POINT #1: "GOTTA GET THAT"
- When we reduce our art forms down to results, rewards, fame or even technique, we lose sight of the whole point. When we're creating from this place it all becomes a huge drag that is sure to shorten your career.
POINT #2: “SAY WHAT?"
- What is it that you do? Actually? Behind the label of what you do, what do you do? Ask yourself this question. Begin to explore this thing that you have set out to do and begin to uncover the deep feeling, meaning, and motivation that makes it all worthwhile. This is your inner artist. Find what is beautiful and you will find the truth.
POINT #3: “ENGAGE!!!"
- When you're really doing what you're doing, everything melts away. Your concept of time, place, even your self, seems to evaporate. When you're engaged amazing things happen creatively. Ultimately, this can become the goal of artistic endeavor that can last a lifetime.

“Master the Basics, Become a Master"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Through an intriguing cross-examination of different art forms and mediums, we discover some fascinating insights into the creative process and becoming terrific artists. When we cut through the crap and the complications we convince ourselves of, the basics are always forgotten and the basics are always what makes or breaks our work.
POINT #1: "WHAT IS THAT EVEN?"
- Before you get caught up in the little details or even really start thinking about them, a picture of the whole has to be formed, communicated, or made tangible in some way. Often the little details can become trivial, meaningless or even detrimental when not viewed in perspective of the whole.
POINT #2: “IT'S ALL ABOUT THE LAYERS"
- Once you have a basic outline, which isn't going to look like much, now there's room to play. Now you have the room to refine, sculpt, finesse and discover the little details. When you embrace this whole process, the most simple of ideas can become a magnum opus.
POINT #3: “CUTTING THROUGH"
- We like to overcomplicate things. There's no need to. Start simple. Make that simple as great as it can be. The core things are the most important things that make the biggest difference in the end. Practice, embrace and enjoy being basic.

The B&E Podcast #147
“The Temptation of Selling Spectacle Over Story"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Sparked by recent events in the summer blockbuster lineup, we talk about the risks of marketing your work with too much focus on the bells and whistles. We discover that artistry and industry have a fascinating meeting point where they both agree. Audiences seem too as well.
POINT #1: "COME SEE THE SPECTACLE!!!"
- There's nothing wrong with a little razzle dazzle in art. In fact, it's necessary. But if you're trying to market and sell your work purely on this alone, it gets dicey. There are so very few names and situations in which this can work effectively that it's best to not rely on.
POINT #2: “STORY FOR THE WIN"
- No matter what kinds of effects, names, budget etc you have at your disposal, none of it takes the place of a good story. In any artistic work, there is always a story to be told. When we strip it down to nothing but aesthetics and sizzle, everyone is left wanting.
POINT #3: “WHAT AM I EATING?"
- Spectacle is a lot like the spice and presentation of food. No doubt it's important and can add flavour, but we need to know what we're actually consuming. Is it chicken? Is it fish? Is it beef? Wait, it's a pasta?! The core component needs to be there in order to make everything else relevant.

The B&E Podcast #146
“Why Our Motivation Escapes Us"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
We're back to tackle that pesky subject about motivation, where it comes from, and how we can stay on track as artists. We discover that through a greater acceptance of our emotions and practicing forgiveness, for others and ourselves, we break through the barriers to freedom.
POINT #1: "READJUSTING OUR MOTIVATION"
- We have a lot of mixed up ideas about motivation in our world. It seems people either have it or they don't, or when you have it, it's fleeting. When we look at our goals not for what we get from them but what achieving our goals gives others we discover a greater sense of drive and purpose.
POINT #2: “EMOTIONS & SHACKLES"
- We all carry a lot of baggage. That baggage comes in the form of our past and our emotions around them. By not allowing ourselves to acknowledge our anger, sorrow or fear and express it in a healthy way, we carry it around with us. It can impact us in ways both consciously and unconsciously. Learning to let it go helps us to reconnect with our authentic motivation.
POINT #3: “FORGIVENESS IS THE KEY"
- After you have let the emotions flow the next step is to forgive. Forgive others, yourself, and the world. When you can recognize that no matter what wrongs might have been done, you or whoever it was that did them, it was the best that could be done at that time. You can even discover lessons you would have never learned had it not been for those events and be grateful. Ultimately, the release is found in forgiveness.

B&EP #145 - Liberate Yourself From the Need to Be Special
Wednesday Sep 06, 2017
Wednesday Sep 06, 2017
The B&E Podcast #145
“Liberate Yourself From the Need To Be Special"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
We're all so special, aren't we? Well... we are, but probably not in the way that we think. Definitely not in the way that we think. We dive into the generational issue of being special snowflakes and how that affects and hinders us in our lives and as artists. This one dives deep, people!
POINT #1: "THINKING YOUR SPECIAL"
- Thinking you're special creates a sense of entitlement and foreshadows a rude awakening at some point along the line. It's not necessarily your fault, you were most likely brought up to think this way whether you're consciously aware of it or not. Checking your thought systems for this idea of specialness now can help you in the long run.
POINT #2: “THE NEED TO BE SPECIAL"
- So you've realized you're not special, but you still have the desire to be special. Now we have a whole new issue. The need to be special creates a false set of ideals and ideas to stand out in some way. While these can give us a kind of drive, ultimately they can never be achieved and result in unneeded anxiety and stress.
POINT #3: “LETTING IT ALL GO"
- The bizarre paradox of all of this is that once you let go of the need to be special you kind of become special because it means that you are acting and working in a way that is more authentic and true. Letting go of being special creates space for you to really get interested in what you're doing and discovering your own voice.

Sunday Sep 03, 2017
The B&E Podcast #144
“Why We Lose Motivation Along the Way"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Take a little stroll with this one that gets into how we're motivated as people and as artists. We discuss the pitfalls of doing things for the wrong reasons, as well as share some personal stories as to how we can reconnect to a stronger sense of purpose and find a deeper drive.
POINT #1: "WHERE YOU GET YOUR MOTIVATION"
- How we try to motivate ourselves both unknowingly and knowingly has a massive impact on its effectiveness. When we're driven by survival or external desires, or make our work contingent upon a certain result we set ourselves up for some trouble. When we learn to connect to what we do for its own sake we can uncover a deep motivation for happy careers and lives.
POINT #2: “BE REAL, BE HONEST"
- There's no sense in pretending that there aren't certain realities out there in the world and in our industries. Knowing them allows us to navigate with greater ease, keep our integrity, as well as inject our artistic sensibilities where we can -- bending the rules and breaking them.
POINT #3: “FINDING THE PATH"
- There are choices we make in our lives where we look for the easiest route possible. This is natural, and not always a poor decision. However, we can often fool ourselves out of our dreams and authentic ambitions because we think it looks easier. In the long run, it always catches up with us, and the less difficult path becomes the most painful.

The B&E Podcast #143
“Supercharge Your Hard Work With Intention"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Do you feel the power? It may seem silly, it may seem like some mumbo jumbo but there's definitely something to this thing called intention. We also get into setting up affirmations, being more giving and leaving room for things to unfold. Get ready to get fired up!
POINT #1: "INTENTION & AFFIRMATION"
- By getting clear on what we want and practicing positive affirmations towards it, we begin to reprogram how we think. This has far reaching implications that help us get past old, stubborn blocks, and see opportunities where there were once obstacles.
POINT #2: “ACTION"
- Intentions are pointless without taking action, and vice-versa. Together, action and intention create a powerful force in our lives that manifest in a life that looks more like the way we want. Create your intentions in a way that promotes action.
POINT #3: “MAKING THE CHOICE"
- So you're still not sold on all this stuff. Think about it this way -- what do you gain by thinking negatively about your life and your possibilities? Is it really any more realistic? Why would you not want to think in a way that promotes more joy and creativity in your day to day life?

“How to Breathe Success Into Your Journey"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Not so serious time is the right time for great talks on art and industry. This one is all about how our attitudes can strangle our work and our ability to create. We discover that by embracing the unknown and accepting a childlike humility we can tackle any new endeavour we encounter.
POINT #1: "GET UNCOMFORTABLE"
- Stepping into unknown territory is part of being an artist and that comes with certain feelings of being uncomfortable. It is also where we make our biggest discoveries and come out with our best creations. Learning to keep it in perspective helps make it a little easier.
POINT #2: “BE LIKE A CHILD"
- Trying to be an expert all the time, or thinking that you should be an expert can shut us down to embracing our experiences and learning as much as we can. Saying "I'm just a kid" takes the pressure off and leaves us open to whatever might come up.
POINT #3: “LET IT BREATHE"
- When we get uncomfortable or in a situation we're not familiar with, we tense up and squeeze tighter. Letting go and allowing ourselves a little humility creates space for something unexpected to save the day.

B&EP #141 - Don‘t Fight it When You Don‘t Know What to Do

Wednesday Aug 23, 2017
The B&E Podcast #141
“Don't Fight It When You Don't Know What To Do"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
It was a little tougher today than usual at the B&E Podcast. After struggling with finding a topic we decided that sometimes you just shouldn't fight it and go with what you got. It became the essence of this podcast -- both in the direction as well as spirit. Let's see what happens when you stop fighting!
POINT #1: "COULD BE THIS COULD BE THAT"
- Sometimes we're simply unmotivated, uninspired, have no energy etc. There may be any number of situations as to why but it doesn't really matter when you're trying to create movement. Trying to figure it out isn't necessarily the best use of what energy you have.
POINT #2: “START SOMEWHERE"
- You may not have the best idea, or even a good one, but sometimes just an idea that will do is enough to get you going. Who knows, you may discover that it snowballs into something really great.
POINT #3: “FIND SOME JOY"
- Ask yourself some questions about what it is that you do. What is a highlight from your creative career or experience? Reconnecting to why you are doing this in the first place can be exactly what you need to let go of the struggle.

“Why You're Not Finding What You're Seeking"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Seek and you shall find. Yes indeed. This one is all about our focus, our expectations, our challenges and how we are being conscious in our lives and in our work. This one is full of all kinds of tasty wisdom and personal stories. We uncover how we can take a new look at our lives and how the universe has our backs.
POINT #1: "SEEK AND YOU SHALL FIND"
- What are you looking for in your day to day life? What are you expecting of the world? Is it hostile? Is it against you? Or is it supporting you? Is it out for your best interest? You decide what you want to find in the world -- which will you choose?
POINT #2: “CHALLENGE AND FOCUS"
- Once we have set out on a course to accomplish something there are all kinds of curves that can come at us. When we resist them we run ourselves off the road. When we let go of our expectation we discover that these curves are there to give us greater clarity and discover the true nature of our journey.
POINT #3: “ON DEPRESSION"
- Depression can teach us many things, and as a personal note from both of us, if you are going through a hard time in your life and thinking about doing harm to yourself or someone else, please, please, please, talk to somebody about what you're feeling. Whether it's a trusted friend, partner, family member, or counseling professional, bringing light and awareness to what you're experiencing is the path to healing.

The B&E Podcast #139
“Not Making Hard Work So Hard To Do"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Why does it have to be so hard!? Well... maybe it doesn't. On this episode, we talk about some of the usual suspects that make it more difficult than necessary to create. We attempt to shine a light on what gets in our way and making our work look more like play.
POINT #1: "BLACK & WHITE"
- When we look at everything that happens in our lives and our work as one way or the other we leave ourselves little room for error which also means little room for exploration. When it's either right or wrong and black and white, garbage or masterpiece, where do you get to play?
POINT #2: “PUTTING IT ON"
- So much of what makes the creative process difficult is how important we often make it, as well as where we think it needs to end up. Part of creativity is not knowing where it might go, being surprised, and landing somewhere you didn't expect. Sometimes that is precisely where it's at its best.
POINT #3: “FEAR & PURPOSE"
- Show me a person who is lazy and I'll show you a person who is afraid. Being able to identify our fears around our work goes a long way to overcoming them. Equally important is knowing why you want to create your work can help you overcome whatever hang-ups you may be having.

“Being an Effective Artist Within Your Means"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Sometimes we have to make difficult decisions when it comes to our art and the industry that caters to it. We must weigh between choices of practicality and reality - time, place and matter - and our drive towards artistic integrity. There are great values in both, and knowing what they are can help you pick a direction to move forward.
POINT #1: "TO BE OR NOT TO BE... FOR NOW"
- When certain elements are time contingent it can be tempting to double down and force something through. There can be a value in just getting it done, but sometimes taking a step back to check in with where your values lie will wisely suggest striking at another time.
POINT #2: “PRACTICAL SHMACKTICAL"
- Being practical can lead us into making hasty decisions that ultimately don't serve our art and overlook why we're doing it all in the first place. Let practicality inform, not dictate.
POINT #3: “WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE?"
- Making decisions at a certain point can feel like splitting hairs. When you find yourself in that situation as yourself the question, "who do I want to be"? This powerful tool can help you cut through the little details and find clarity.

Wednesday Aug 09, 2017
The B&E Podcast #137
“The Mess & The Math of Being An Artist"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
This is where artistry meets industry folks. The mess and the math of it all. We talk about finding balance in so many ways. Whether that's in the creative part itself to keeping an authentic voice while being aware of external demands. Ultimately we learn about how to be freer as artists.
POINT #1: "WHAT YOU DO AND WHAT YOU DON'T"
- A lot of what makes up for the small nuances in artistic work are the things we show and the things we withhold. It's not always about giving too much direction and it's not about leaving things completely up in the air. Often this push and pull are where we find the real artistry.
POINT #2: “FINDING THE SWEET SPOT"
- There's a beautiful space where we create something that is meaningful to us, full of our authentic voice, and yet remains accessible to a large audience to hear your message. Going too far one way or the other can breed some interesting results and be valuable, but pose their own risks.
POINT #3: “BACK TO OUR ROOTS"
- Coming back to where it all began and what brought us to doing what we do in the first place can be the gut-check we need when or if we become lost or disillusioned with a situation we're in.

“How to Stay On Track When You Feel Like Giving Up"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Artists have a lot of ups and downs and challenges in their lives and careers. Sometimes these challenges really rock us to our core and we question our decisions and why we're doing what we're doing. How do we overcome this? What can we learn from these situations? All this and more.....
POINT #1: "WISDOM IN THE MESS"
- Very often, in situations where we're really confused or feeling defeated, is often the catalyst we need to discover greater meaning and a deeper connection to our art and our work. Sometimes we need to take a few steps back to get a running start.
POINT #2: “LETTING GO OR GIVING UP"
- There is an important distinction to be made between these two concepts. Giving up is a decision made out of fear, letting go is an empowered conscious decision. Learning how you have the power to make choices makes it easier to carve a way forward when you're feeling discouraged.
POINT #3: “INCREMENTS"
- Great things take time to build. Learning patience and to make small steps forward add up to massive impact in the long run. You won't always see it right away, but by focusing on what's right in front of us and creating achievable goals we can avoid a lot of the dismay and frustration that can come with building a career.

“Heightening a Sense of Joy in Your Creative Work"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
This one is a quick hit of awesomeness. We talk about the difference between objective and subjective, the profound value of our experiences, and finding deeper enjoyment in our work. This one's a lot of fun.
POINT #1: "FORGET THE CLIFF NOTES"
- We often want the quick, easy, point to point way of doing things. This can have value but we also lose out on the knowledge that comes through experiencing something in its entirety. The details, the nuance, and emotion are all essential in forming real wisdom.
POINT #2: “WHAT ARE YOU DOING IT FOR?"
- It's easy to get caught up in trying to get somewhere in our day and age. When we get too caught up in that game we lose sight of what we really care about and what we really want to do. Make goals that allow you to do more of what you want in your life NOW not later.
POINT #3: “ENJOY"
- Why else are you creating art other than you enjoy doing it? Make that be what your work is about as much as you can. Don't get too caught up in what may or may not come of it. Let go and enjoy.

“What Video Games Can Teach Us About Creating An Experience"
Soundcloud Link:

SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
We like us some video games around here on the B&E Podcast, and we like to explore the finer, artistic concepts behind them. As a modern mass form of media and entertainment as well as art, it has unique challenges and opportunities in its creation. With video games, it's all about the experience.
POINT #1: "REVOLUTION IN TECHNOLOGY"
- Video games were born of technology, and their evolution continues to be fueled by it. As technology progresses new opportunities to create new types of experiences present themselves beyond simply making things prettier.
POINT #2: “HOW FAR WILL IT GO?"
- There are a lot of interesting developments in video games right now, namely in virtual reality. It poses the potential for powerful new immersive experiences but also could both traumatize as well as desensitize if not respected.
POINT #3: “IT ALL COMES DOWN TO YOU"
- One of the great things about games is that they really are tailored for creating an experience for YOU. Big things and little things in the design are meticulously crafted for you to have an experience of some kind. How can you find ways to tailor your work for the audience's experience?

“Why to Trust Your Sensibilities As An Artist"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
You know all about that creative process stuff, so do we. There's a lot that can get in the way of creating meaningful work -- mostly ourselves. We talk about perfectionism, doing something we've never done before and keeping things simple. All this and way more.
POINT #1: "TO BOLDLY GO"
- Sometimes as artists, we may find ourselves in a creative situation that we have never encountered before. This is often grounds for our egos to step in and try and handle the situation. This is the last thing you want to do. Take a breath and draw upon what experience you have.
POINT #2: “IT'S SIMPLER THAN YOU'RE MAKING IT"
- We often overcomplicate our new endeavors and inspirations with ideas of what it should be or what else is out there. When you connect to yourself, your emotions and what you genuinely want to communicate, everything gets clear.
POINT #3: “SENSIBILITY AND TECHNIQUE"
- As artists, it's important that we immerse ourselves in technical aspects of our craft but we must always return to what matters most in creation. This shifts technique into sensibilities which are malleable and optional.

“The Illusion of How a Masterpiece is Made"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
C'mon, let's be honest, we all want to make a masterpiece of some kind. Who wouldn't want to? Why wouldn't you want to? We have a lot of ideas of how that is made and many of them are complete fallacies. So how does one create a masterpiece? Time to dive in!
POINT #1: "SEEDS OF IDEAS"
- Sometimes a seed is all you need. We often overlook these simple but often powerful initial inspirations believing we need to have the whole flower for it to be "good" or worthwhile. Go with the seed. Nurture, follow, respond, and see what happens.
POINT #2: “YOU BEING AUTHENTIC?"
- Getting connected to our authentic self and voice is crucial if we want to have any hope of ever creating something anyone considers a masterpiece, including ourselves. Only through such expression of genuine honesty can we have the right materials to take it beyond.
POINT #3: “GOTTA HAVE FAITH"
- Even if you've done everything right, there are no guarantees for any particular outcome. Having faith in your project and what brought you to it in the first place helps you detach from the results, create with greater clarity, joy, and freedom.

If I had to understand everything about connecting people before I began, I never would have started Facebook. Movies and pop culture get this all wrong. The idea of a single eureka moment is a dangerous lie. It makes us feel inadequate since we haven’t had ours. It prevents people with seeds of good ideas from getting started.”

SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Holy not so serious podcast! This one heads into the crazy corner out of the gate and leads into some terrific stuff people! We talk about consciousness, the unconscious, the unknown, embracing the difficult times, finding our own wisdom, our own magic, and becoming extraordinary artists. Hold on folks!
POINT #1: "WHAT IS CONSCIOUSNESS ANYWAY?"
- Yeah! That tricky thing? Me, you -- what is that even? There are some interesting insights about what that could be and what that might mean for us as artists.
POINT #2: “AFRAID OF THE DARK"
- Most of us/all of us carry some level of fear of the unknown. The things that are unfamiliar make us uncomfortable. Yet it's the ripest ground for us to grow as people and as artists.
POINT #3: “FLOWING, DIALED IN, TAPPED IN"
- Think that all of this stuff about creation is a bunch of BS? Maybe. But think of the language we use to describe such indescribable moments and events -- flowing; dialed in; tapped in; transcendent, etc. Coincidence?

“Why Having Everything You Want Can Stifle Creativity"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
As artists, we can fall into the trap of thinking we need more things, more tools, more money, more this and that in order to "properly" create our work. Is it possible that this is an illusion? Or that it's at least something we give more weight than it deserves? When it comes to creating, there's always a balance of what's potentially lost and gained.
POINT #1: "HAVING LOTS OR LITTLE"
- We often have judgments about what we think we need or want in order to fully realize our vision. Be careful that this is not just a story you're telling yourself that is preventing you from moving forward.
POINT #2: “LIMITATIONS MIGHT BE A BLESSING"
- Limitations can force us to focus and get more creative with our choices and expression, resulting in ideas and solutions we wouldn't have thought of had we possessed everything we ideally wanted.
POINT #3: “WHERE YOU'RE IN CONTROL"
- By looking at our present circumstances in conjunction with our creative ambitions, we can assess what we are capable of actually doing and achieving towards it now. You might be surprised about the kinds of creative solutions you are able to come up with that get you doing more of what you want.

SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Are you kidding me! Not so serious turns out another saucy talk all about our attachments, going back to the beginning and becoming freer as artists. There's a healthy dose of philosophy as well as practical wisdom in this one. Get ready for your daily inspiration dose.
POINT #1: "PRESENCE & MEANING"
- Starting with what you're passionate or excited about is key to winning the battle of meaning because it's already taken care of for you. You don't need to keep reconnecting because you know. When you're connected to that, presence is your next ally that will take you through all of the twists and turns of the creative process with attention and honesty.
POINT #2: “DETACH"
- You would be amazed at how learning the value of detachment, that is, letting go of results, can have profound impacts on our ability to create. When we get past our attachments we can get past our judgments meaning we can let go of the pressure and create with greater freedom and honesty. It also doesn't matter what happens with it after. Nice. Do it for doing it.
POINT #3: “CURIOUS, WILLING, ABANDON"
- Some of the most useful things an artist may ever learn are curiosity, willingness and abandon. With these things on your side, there are infinite things to be discovered, explored and expressed. Side note - detachment really helps with this.

SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
Artists have to face the constant onslaught of societal norms and pressures that don't always play nice with what we do. Whether it's our own friends and family, or the images around us, there's a lot of things that we're supposed to have or want. When we can see what it's all about, we learn how to deal with it in healthier ways, discover new truths, and find a deeper resolve.
POINT #1: "PEOPLE DON'T ALWAYS UNDERSTAND”
- No matter how much we try to explain or validate our choices to be artists to the people around us, some people simply don't understand, that's okay. It's not meant to necessarily be mean or negative, it's their own fearful projections based on their limited perceptions.
POINT #2: “MONEY... ANY SURPRISES THERE?”
- Society is so caught up in materialism and money as a means of happiness. This is the biggest challenge that most artists are up against especially when you're just getting going. Get a car, get a house, get this, get that and on and on and on. By being able to see these patterns we can find the bigger reasons for doing our art and express with more fullness.
POINT #3: “PUT YOURSELF IN A PLACE OF POWER”
- We are in the society that we are in, and that does have certain obligations. Instead of bemoaning our environment we can learn to be more disciplined with our money, our needs and wants, and find practical ways of making the financial realities of life less of a burden and even a place of strength.

The B&E Podcast #126
“Know Your Contribution, See Your Value, Build Confidence"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
On this delightful episode, on another Not So Serious edition, we discuss the importance of setting boundaries in our lives, creating space in others, the importance of social bonds and finding our value through contribution. Lots of wonderful and inspiring things to be heard in this one!
POINT #1: “SETTING BOUNDARIES... OR NOT"
- Sometimes we need to buckle down and do our work that we're passionate about, sometimes we need to go and live our lives, seeing others and being social. Both of these things are necessary to keep the well full as well as the work flowing. Learning when to say no and when to say yes is a terrific wisdom to begin to build.
POINT #2: “DOING FOR DOING"
- We're so hard-wired to do things for the purpose of getting something. However, when we approach our lives in this way there's always something else to get after the next. If we can learn to connect to a sense of value in the act of doing something for its own sake, we can transform our lives and our work.
POINT #3: "APPRECIATION AND VALUE"
- Understanding how we can contribute or where we're already contributing helps us to connect to our value and develop a deeper connection to what we do. Our lives and our work can become more potent, passionate and rewarding.

B&EP #127 - Where to Begin When You Don‘t Know Where to Start

Tuesday Jul 11, 2017
The B&E Podcast #127
“Where to Begin When You Don’t Know Where to Start"
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
It’s not always easy to get rolling when you don’t know where to start. On this episode, where we didn’t know where to begin, we talk about just that. As it turns out, the biggest way to start has to do with ourselves, getting out of our own way, admitting where we’re at, shifting our perspectives and trusting the process.
POINT #1: "YOU ARE WHERE YOU ARE”
- Part of the problem is not admitting that we have a problem. By trying to pretend that we’re okay we create a disconnect with ourselves and create more stress than necessary. Only by actually being where we are and being okay with that can we then move forward.
POINT #2: “WHAT’S RIGHT ANYHOW?”
- After we’ve accepted where we are we can then look at our judgment around it all. What if we are exactly where we’re supposed to be? What if our low energy, our feelings of incompetence and unworthiness are all perfect conditions, just as much as when we’re excited and inspired for us to take the next step on that project?
POINT #3: “INSPIRATION ON THE RIVER”
- When you’ve begun a project, you’ve decided to get on the boat and head downstream. Sometimes it will be fast flowing and rapid, at other times it will be calm and serene. Each of these moments provide their own unique kinds of inspiration -- neither being better or worse. When you’re on the river of creation there is never nothing, there is always something.

The B&E Podcast #125
“Say Yes to Your Free Time as an Artist”w/ Chelsea Comeau
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
With our lovely and talented guest, Chelsea Comeau, poet and writer, we talk about connecting to our worth and taking the time to do what we need, be happier, and more creating.
POINT #1: “YOU'RE WORTH DOING THE THINGS THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY"
- As our guest points out, getting past a low sense of self-worth can be vital to allowing more of the good things in your life. Often that's just giving yourself time and taking the pressure off.
POINT #2: “BUSY WORK, HARD WORK"
- Our society glorifies a lot of ideas around hard work or being busy. Let's change some of that mentality to having passion and giving it your all WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT. Working hard and being "busy" all the time leads to burnout. There's a time to be patient and there's a time to act -- be ready for both.
POINT #3: "JUDGMENT CASE"
- We're often very judgmental of ourselves for our actions, inactions, activities, feelings, and desires. We don't always know what these are for, and sometimes what seems counterproductive is exactly what we need to recharge the well. Maybe that's taking a walk, maybe that's a meditation or a coffee break. We need a little combo of "getting on" and "goofing off".

The B&E Podcast #124
“Learning the Valuable Distinction Between Knowledge & Wisdom”
Soundcloud Link:
soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast
SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST:
On this provocative talk, we endeavor to find what differentiates knowledge -- understanding, information etc, and real wisdom. When it comes to turning knowledge to wisdom, experience is the key.
POINT #1: “WHAT PEOPLE SAY"
- People can tell you all kinds of life lessons and wisdom, but no one can give you wisdom -- only knowledge. Wisdom has to be experienced, or has to touch upon something you have experienced.
POINT #2: “LISTEN"
- Mentors and teachers are an important part in our lives. They can point a direction, provide context or consolation, and attempt to impart wisdom. Ultimately we have to walk our own path and discover for ourselves.
POINT #3: "CRAZY CORNER: BELIEFS"
- We dive into ideas around religion, God, the universe, science, objectivity, and subjectivity, and keeping our opinions in check.
